Dense fog causes tourist bus crash in West Midnapore, 12 injured

Dense fog led to a tourist bus crashing into a roadside electric pole in Chandrakona, injuring 12 passengers, four critically.

A tourist bus met with an accident due to dense fog. The accident occurred around 7 AM on Monday in the Bowra police station area under Chandrakona police station in West Midnapore district. It has been reported that 12 people were injured. Among them, the condition of 4 people is extremely critical.

According to police sources, the bus was traveling from Digha towards Kamarpukur in Hooghly via the Chandrakona-Ramjibanpur state highway on Monday morning. Visibility was low since Monday morning due to dense fog. Due to the fog, the bus driver lost control after failing to see the road clearly and crashed into an electric pole and electric transformer beside the road.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving information. The injured were rescued and sent to Khirpai Rural Hospital for treatment. Among them, four people whose condition was critical have been transferred to Ghatal Sub-divisional Hospital.

Police rescued the bus by pulling it with a crane. Traffic movement in the area was halted after the incident. Police arrived and brought the situation under control, and traffic movement later returned to normal.
