Son marked as 'dead' in draft list despite being alive. Parents frustrated. Their clear demand is that the Election Commission must do what needs to be done. This incident occurred at booth number 120 in Naldanga under Chinsurah assembly constituency.

On Tuesday, December 16, the Election Commission published the draft voter list. In that list, Trinamool councillor Surya De from Dankuni was mentioned as 'dead'. In protest of this, the councillor from ward number 18 had sat at the crematorium. The same incident has occurred again in Hooghly district.

Debamay Bhattacharya, the elder son of elderly couple Snehamay Bhattacharya and Shikha Bhattacharya, residents of booth number 120 in Naldanga, has been marked as 'dead' in the voter list. Debamay has been residing in Jamshedpur for work for the past four years. He lives there with his wife.

Debamay says, "If they do such work, there's nothing to say. BLOs should see this, should understand this. I myself spoke to the BLO over phone. I had informed him that my wife's and my voter cards have been transferred. Even after that, if they do this, it's nothing but mental torture."

Debamay's mother and father also informed BLO Malay Datta about the matter. Debamay's father told his mother in return that he couldn't understand how this happened. While Debamay's wife Monika's name is listed, 'dead' is written next to Debamay's name.

Debamay's mother Shikha Bhattacharya says, "They have made my son dead. Those who made the mistake should correct it. How can I accept that my living son has been declared dead? They left from here in 2021. Even after that, this happened. Whose fault it is, let the commission find out. We have aged, we won't be able to run around. Those who made the mistake must correct it themselves."

However, Hooghly organizational district BJP general secretary Suresh Sau claims there's no reason to be worried about this. This is a draft list. The final list will come out after this. But Chinsurah Trinamool MLA Asit Majumdar says, "Debamay's father and mother are around 70 years old. One son lives elsewhere. Will you call him dead? From the beginning, our party had said that an error-free voter list cannot be prepared in such a short time. That's being proven again and again. The Election Commission is killing living people."
