Many people flocked to Santiniketan, drawn by the Poush Mela. The fair began on December 23 and ended on December 28. And during these six days, record liquor sales were recorded in Bolpur-Santiniketan. The Excise Department has reported that from December 23 to December 28, liquor worth ₹2 crore 49 lakh 96 thousand 411 was sold from 44 shops in the Bolpur and Santiniketan areas. Of this, domestic liquor worth ₹98 lakh 63 thousand 240 was sold, foreign liquor worth ₹1 crore 25 lakh 25 thousand 740 was sold, and beer worth ₹26 lakh 7 thousand 430 was sold.
This figure is significantly higher compared to other times of the year, claim the sellers. Naturally, there are broad smiles on their faces.

This year's Santiniketan fair was vibrant. Tourists arrived not only from the state but from various parts of the country. Business was brisk. During this time, Santiniketan's overall business sector flourishes. Hotel rates are significantly higher during this period compared to other times of the year. But despite this, most hotels were booked this year, claim the businessmen.
Not just the Poush Mela, but with the winter atmosphere in full swing, tourists are expected to crowd Santiniketan throughout the entire month of January. Consequently, local businessmen are optimistic that hotels, liquor, and other businesses will see profits.
