Two farmers from Aushgram were injured in a jackal attack. This incident has spread panic in the rural area. Both were treated at the hospital on Friday.
Forest department cites rising jackal sightings near farmlands
According to local sources, 65-year-old farmer Kartik Loha, a resident of Takipur village in Aushgram, had gone to tend to his potato field around 9 AM on Friday morning. At that time, several other farmers were working in the adjacent fields. Suddenly, a jackal attacked Kartik. When he tried to run to save himself, he fell down. The jackal then bit him on his face and multiple parts of his body. Hearing Kartik's screams, people from the surrounding area rushed to help, and the jackal fled. He was later rescued and admitted to Guskara Sub-divisional Hospital.

On the same day, around noon, 59-year-old farmer Abhijit Kesh, a resident of another village in Aushgram, was injured by a jackal bite. He had gone alone to check his mustard field beside the village. At that time, a jackal attacked him. With the help of locals, he was also taken to the hospital for treatment. These consecutive incidents have spread panic in the area. Regarding this, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, an official of the Panagar Range of the Forest Department, said, "The number of jackals has increased in East Bardhaman. They are being seen more in forests and forest-adjacent residential areas. However, jackals usually attack only when they feel threatened. We will soon start awareness campaigns on this matter."
