'Can't take the pressure anymore, goodbye', BLO hangs himself in Bankura, probe on

A Bankura school headmaster and BLO, Haradhan Mandal, was found dead in a classroom in an apparent suicide, with his family alleging extreme work pressure linked to SIR duties.

The hanging body of a headmaster was recovered from a classroom in Bankura. A suicide note was found beside the body, which read, "I can no longer take the pressure, goodbye." This incident caused a sensation on Sunday in the Rajakata area of Ranibandh assembly constituency in Bankura. The deceased has been identified as Haradhan Mandal. Police from Ranibandh station recovered the body and sent it to Bankura Sammilani Medical College for post-mortem.

What happened to Haradhan Mandal?

According to local sources, Haradhan Mandal, the headmaster of Rajakata Majherpara Primary School in Bankura, was serving as BLO for booth number 206 in Ranibandh assembly constituency of Bankura. Some voters from that booth were called for a hearing. The BLO left home around 10 AM on Sunday, saying he needed to collect documents for those voters. Later, when family members went to the school premises looking for him, they found the gate open. In one of the classrooms, his body was hanging from the ceiling fan with a noose.

As soon as news of the incident spread, it caused a sensation in the area. A suicide note was recovered from the scene. It read, "I alone am responsible for the BLO work. No one else is involved in this." At the very end of the letter, it was written, "Even after fixing everything, I made a mistake. Forgive me."

SIR pressure behind death?

Mandal's family claims that he deceased headmaster was suffering from mental depression due to his inability to cope with the pressure of SIR work, which led to this incident. His son Soham Mandal said, "No training, no help. Today they say do this, tomorrow they say do that. Then again, they said, it's your job, you figure it out. Father would stay up all night working. He couldn't handle the pressure of SIR, so he died by suicide." Police have started investigating the incident.
