A devastating fire broke out Monday afternoon at a plastic factory in the Daspara area of Ward No. 9, in Dhupguri municipality. Within minutes, the entire factory was engulfed by flames. The fire was so intense that it spread to nearby trees — creating widespread alarm in the neighbourhood.

Firefighters were mobilised immediately after the incident was reported. Three fire engines were deployed in an effort to bring the blaze under control. However, even after around two and a half hours, the fire was not yet fully contained.

The blaze reportedly began suddenly inside the warehouse, where combustible materials ignited and caused the fire to spread rapidly throughout the facility. Two fire engines from the Dhupguri fire station reached the spot first, and — seeing the severity of the blaze — a third unit was brought in from Maynaguri.

The flames jumping to adjacent trees worsened the situation. Several trees were set alight, and some collapsed under the heat. The entire area was thrown into panic and chaos.

Residents have alleged that the fire brigade is facing multiple difficulties in putting out the blaze. They say water supplies ran short quickly. Since there are no nearby reservoirs or ponds, firefighters have reportedly had to travel a considerable distance to fetch water, delaying their efforts to control the fire.

Local residents also claim that multiple small water bodies in the area have been illegally filled up, limiting water access and complicating firefighting further.
