The Election Commission on Wednesday introduced a new feature in the mobile application used by booth-level officers (BLOs), allowing them to edit enumeration forms, review data they have entered, or unmap any suspicious electors. Earlier, BLOs did not have the option to revisit or modify entries once they were submitted online.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is currently conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), a major electoral roll-updating exercise ahead of upcoming voting cycles in various states. The drive, first conducted in Bihar, is now underway in 12 states and Union Territories. During this period, eligible voters can apply for new registrations, update details, or request corrections to their existing voter ID information.

If your voter ID has spelling errors, outdated address details, incorrect age, or other inaccuracies, this is a good time to get them corrected. Here’s how the process works.
What is SIR?
The Special Intensive Revision is a scheduled verification exercise where BLOs visit households to check voter details, distribute enumeration forms, gather updated information and ensure the accuracy of the electoral rolls. This includes adding eligible voters and removing those who are ineligible. During this period, additions, deletions, shifts, and corrections to voter entries are processed by ECI officials.
Who can apply for corrections?
Anyone already listed in the electoral roll can request updates if,
Their name is misspelt.
Their address contains formatting errors.
Their date of birth or gender is incorrect.
Their photograph is missing or needs replacement.
Details of a parent, spouse, or guardian are inaccurate.
How to request a correction?
Option 1: Offline correction via BLO
When the BLO visits, check your existing voter details in the draft roll or verification form.
Fill out the correction form, usually through the distributed verification form or Form 8, which is meant for correcting enrolled entries.
Provide supporting documents if required.
Submit the form to the BLO, who will upload or forward your details to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for processing.
Option 2: Online application
If your state allows online submissions during SIR.
Visit the Voter Services Portal
Select Form 8 – correction of entries in existing roll
Fill in the correct details
Upload supporting documents
Submit and track your application online
Once approved, your updated EPIC (voter ID card) may be available as a digital e-EPIC or delivered physically, depending on your region.
Why corrections matter?
Accurate voter details help ensure smooth verification on polling day, avoid mismatches with other identity documents, and prevent last-minute issues during voting. Even small spelling errors or outdated addresses can cause problems, so it’s important to contact your BLO and get your voter ID corrected before the final rolls are published.
