The Election Commission has written to the Trinamool chairman. Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien had earlier written to the Commission requesting a meeting. On Monday, the Commission sent a reply to that letter, addressed to the Chief Minister at the Harish Chatterjee Street address. The letter states that the Commission is willing to meet, and it also mentions the date and time. However, sources say that this letter has raised new questions within the Trinamool. The Commission’s letter says that five representatives may attend the meeting, whereas Trinamool had requested permission for a 10-member delegation.

Abhishek Banerjee posted on X (formerly Twitter) regarding this. He asked, “If the EC is genuinely transparent, why is it scared to face just 10 MPs? Hold the meeting openly. TELECAST IT LIVE and answer the five straightforward, legitimate questions that the AITC will place before you.” He further asked, “Is the Election Commission willing to prove its transparency or does it only function behind closed doors ?”

Based on Trinamool’s request, the Election Commission has agreed to meet their delegation on November 28. Five representatives have been asked to visit the Election House in New Delhi at 11 AM that day. The letter says the meeting has been approved following Trinamool’s request. However, the party must inform the Commission in advance about who will be part of the delegation.

Derek O’Brien had emailed the Election Commission asking for a meeting slot. The reply he received says the Commission is ready for constructive discussions with all political parties during the SIR.

Meanwhile, sources claim the Trinamool is unhappy with the limit of five representatives, as they wanted to take 10 members. According to sources, the party sent another letter to the Commission on Tuesday. Party insiders say Trinamool remains firm that all 10 members must be allowed to attend.
