West Bengal Legislative Assembly Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari held a press conference on 17 November, raising concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal and alleged lapse in the SIR procedure.
During the press conference, Adhikari stated that earlier this year, the Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted the SIR in Bihar. Where the SIR had to face opposition from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and Left parties. Suvendu claimed, the opposition wanted to protect the deceased and migrant voters to satisfy their strategic votebank in order to win the election.
Adhikari slams the ruling party
The Opposition Leader also called Trinamool Congress a close ally of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during the press conference. He also criticised the ruling party leader and members' remarks on SIR in West Bengal and the rally held by Mamata Banerjee from Red Road to Jorasanko, demonstrating protest against SIR. He assured that the ongoing SIR process in West Bengal is under the Election Commission’s vigilance, the enumeration form will be given on time it will also be collected.
Besides the press meeting, a PowerPoint presentation was showcased that included categories such as duplicate voters, deceased voters, double entry in the voter list and illegal immigrants getting out of Indian territory.

Adhikari urged BLOs to deliver all the intentionally withheld enumeration forms to everyone within the next 48 hours so that not a single legal voter goes out of the SIR process. He also added that incidents of falsification of birth certificates by some BMOH and Pradhan need to be stopped.
SIR fear in Bengal
Regarding the ongoing SIR fear in Bengal, the BJP leader stated that those who are legal refugees will be given citizenship through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those who are infiltrators, their names will be deleted from the voter list.
