America's ultra-low-cost airline Avelo has issued an announcement to suspend its flights connecting Florida's Lakeland Linder International Airport and New York's Long Island MacArthur Airport from 30 November 2025. This was the only direct flight between these two airports.

The airline added this route to its list earlier this year. The route received huge popularity after its launch. Earlier, the airline even announced an increase in its number of flights flying in the East Coast route. However, now they have decided to close their services on this route for an indefinite time.

Why is Avelo backing off?

According to an AirlineGeeks report, “Unfortunately, we aren’t seeing high enough demand to account for the large capacity of our planes. These are the only routes being canceled at this time,” said an airline spokesperson from Avelo.

The low-cost carrier is also planning on discontinuing its flight services between Raleigh-Durham International Airport (North Carolina) and Sangster International Airport (Montego Bay, Jamaica) as early as the first week of next year, on 3 January.

Meanwhile, the airline's flight services on all routes leading to Florida's Fort Myers are going to come to an end by 7 January 2026. Last month, the carrier announced that it would put an end to all of its services from New England's second-largest airport, Bradley International Airport, next year, according to a report by The U.S. Sun.

The Houston-based carrier previously operated charter services under the names Casino Express Airlines and Xtra Airways. Later on, the airline shifted to scheduled operations and rebranded itself as Avelo Airlines in April 2021. Its first flight after switching to an ultra-low-cost carrier was between Hollywood Burbank Airport and Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport. Last year, the airline launched its international services.

In light of the recent political developments between the US and South American nations, multiple US airlines are cancelling their routes to South America, as mentioned in a report by The U.S. Sun.
