Pakistan and Bangladesh have expressed concern over the escalating regional situation following recent hostilities linked to Israel's attack on Iran, urging restraint and a renewed focus on diplomacy to maintain peace and stability.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared details of a conversation with Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, highlighting growing regional anxieties.
'Urgent need to prevent further escalation'
In a statement posted on X he said that the two leaders discussed the evolving security situation, which he described as having worsened after Israel's strike on Iran and the subsequent developments that threatened broader regional peace.
He wrote, "Spoke with my brother His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman today on the evolving regional situation that had been aggravated following Israel’s attack on Iran as well as subsequent hostilities that had endangered the peace and security of the entire region.
Appreciated Oman’s sincere efforts, over the past years, to promote dialogue and reduce tensions, especially at this critical time.
We agreed on the urgent need to prevent further escalation and restore the path of diplomacy for lasting peace and stability in our region".

Bangladesh stresses on dialogue and mutual respect
Meanwhile, Bangladesh also issued an official response through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a press release dated March 2, the government said, "Saddened to learn that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated in a targeted attack which is a violation of international law and norms. It extends heartfelt condolences to the brotherly people of Iran."

Bangladesh extended condolences to the people of Iran and reiterated its longstanding position that conflicts cannot resolve disputes.
The statement emphasised that dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to international law remain essential for resolving tensions.
"Bangladesh believes that conflict brings no solution and only dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to the international law can resolve disputes," the statement added.

While Pakistan sought coordination with other regional countries, including Oman, to help normalise the situation, Bangladesh emphasised international laws and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The actions by Pakistan and Bangladesh come as the world leaders are watching developments with growing concern about the implications of the heightened tensions for the region.
