North Korea has sharply criticised recent military operations carried out jointly by the United States and Israel against Iran. In a statement released through its Foreign Ministry, Pyongyang described the strikes as "illegal aggression" and a blatant violation of Iran's sovereignty.

North Korea's foreign ministry spokesperson accused Washington of pursuing "hegemonic and gangster-like" policies, framing the attacks as part of a broader pattern of destabilisation in the region, Reuters reported.

Regional escalation

The strikes targeted hundreds of sites across Iran, including facilities linked to its nuclear programme. In response, Tehran launched missile attacks on Israel, US military bases, and several Gulf states.

The escalation prompted regional governments to close their airspace, while disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz raised alarms over global energy supplies. Oil prices surged as tanker traffic faced delays, underscoring the wider economic risks of the conflict.

Humanitarian concerns

North Korea's statement also condemned civilian casualties resulting from the strikes, calling them "unpardonable crimes against humanity", reported The Business Standard. It warned that continued military actions by Israel and its allies could "fan the flames of war" across the Middle East.

"The illegal act of state-sponsored terrorism by Israel (is) raising the danger of a new all-out war in the Middle East region," said the statement.

Global repercussions

The confrontation has drawn international attention, with fears of a prolonged conflict affecting both security and trade. North Korea's intervention highlights how the crisis resonates beyond the Middle East, as nations weigh in on sovereignty, intervention and the balance of power.
