The incident took place during an IPL 2026 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where Romi Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone inside the dugout.
According to IPL regulations under the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA), electronic devices are strictly prohibited in restricted zones. These rules are designed to prevent any form of unauthorised communication that could compromise the fairness of the game.
ACU finds the explanation unsatisfactory
The matter was reviewed by the BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit, which sought clarification from the Rajasthan Royals manager regarding the breach. However, Bhinder’s explanation did not meet the expectations of the ACU, which remains highly vigilant given the league’s past concerns around corruption and misconduct.

Devajit Saikia's words
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the ACU was not satisfied with the explanation provided by Romi Bhinder and emphasized that such breaches cannot be taken lightly. He stated that maintaining strict discipline within the Players and Match Officials Area is crucial and that all team personnel are expected to adhere to the rules without exception. Saikia underlined that the board will continue to enforce regulations rigorously to uphold the integrity of the tournament.
Official warning issued
Following the findings, the BCCI imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on Bhinder and issued an official warning regarding his conduct.

Since this was his first recorded offence, the board refrained from imposing a harsher penalty such as suspension, but the warning serves as a clear indication that repeated violations could lead to stricter consequences.
Reinforcing the integrity of the league
This incident once again highlights the strict measures enforced by the BCCI and its Anti-Corruption Unit to protect the credibility of the IPL. By taking action even in cases of seemingly minor breaches, the governing body reinforces its zero-tolerance policy and sends a strong message about the importance of transparency and discipline in one of the world’s biggest cricket leagues.
