Phones not a safety hazard?
As per a report, not switching to airplane mode doesn’t threaten the flight’s safety. Modern-day airplanes are equipped with shield technology that is immune to the disturbances caused by electronic gadgets. Pilots and specialists have always claimed that an operational phone does not result in a crash or malfunction.
This problem is related to the accumulation effect and not individual gadgets. Mobile phones, which are still connected, will continue their attempt to establish contact with cell towers on the ground, especially at high altitude and speed levels. This will put some unnecessary stress on the network and will decrease its efficiency.
Electromagnetic disturbance
The most crucial thing that the aviation industry professionals highlight is the fact that the number of connected devices inside the aircraft cause some electromagnetic disturbance that is not hazardous to the plane, but produce noise through pilots’ earphones, especially during the take-off and landing process.
The regulators and airlines are still enforcing the rule in order to play it safe. It is important to note that the aviation industry thrives on the concept of reducing risks at all costs, and the rule helps in keeping the communication lines smooth and free from any distractions for the pilots in the cockpit.

Non-compliance?
There is no need for passengers not to be compliant since there will be little chance of imposing harsh punishments on them. The flight attendants can guide them on how to turn their gadgets to airplane mode if they do not comply.
In light of the current provision by most airlines of wifi connections in flights, passengers can still enjoy their gadgets in a limited way when they have turned off airplane mode.
