Tokyo’s Haneda Airport in Ota City has once again been named the World’s Cleanest Airport 2026 in the Major Airport Category by air transport rating firm Skytrax. This marks the tenth time the airport has secured the top position, according to News18.
The rankings were determined based on surveys sent to airport customers between August 2025 and February 2026. In the other category, which covers airports handling 30 million or fewer passengers per year, New Chitose Airport, the main gateway to Hokkaido, ranked first.

Haneda is the busiest airport in Japan and the third busiest in the world, handling around 78 million passengers annually from across Japan and the globe. It was originally built in 1931 as the primary airport for the greater Tokyo area. The airport continues to set global standards for cleanliness and passenger experience.
What makes Haneda Airport stand out?
Whether you have a long layover or just a little extra time, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport offers far more than one would typically expect from an airport.
Haneda’s Terminal 3 (international terminal) features Edo Ko-ji, a recreation of a traditional Edo-era street that feels more like a film set than an airport concourse.
Visitors can enjoy authentic Japanese eateries serving everything from handmade soba to freshly grilled yakitori, along with souvenir shops offering beautifully packaged local sweets, washi paper, and artisanal ceramics.
The airport also provides comfortable accommodation options with the Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu and Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport. The latter, which opened in 2023 as part of the Haneda Airport Garden complex, delivers a level of hospitality usually associated with top Tokyo districts.

The most special feature
One of the most standout features is the presence of a hot spring bath within the airport. As part of the Haneda Airport Garden development, the Izumi Tenku no Yu Onsen offers indoor and outdoor baths filled with mineral-rich water, sauna rooms, relaxation lounges, and stunning views of planes taking off against the Tokyo skyline.
