Mumbai Indians have signed Mahipal Lomror and Ruchit Ahir as replacements for injured players Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa for the remainder of IPL 2026.

The franchise confirmed that De Kock suffered a tendon injury in his left wrist, while Bawa picked up a ligament tear in his right thumb during the tournament. Both players were ruled out after limited appearances this season, adding to Mumbai’s struggles in an already disappointing campaign.

Mumbai bring in fresh replacements

To cover the absences, MI added Mahipal Lomror to the squad for Rs 50 lakh. The left-handed batting all-rounder brings valuable IPL experience, having previously represented Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Lomror has played 40 IPL matches and is expected to strengthen Mumbai’s middle order with his aggressive batting and spin options.

The franchise also signed wicketkeeper-batter Ruchit Ahir for Rs 30 lakh.

The Saurashtra player impressed MI scouts during the DY Patil T20 Cup and earned a late-season opportunity with the five-time champions. Ahir is seen as a promising domestic talent capable of providing depth behind the stumps and in the batting department.

Injuries add to MI’s difficult season

Mumbai Indians have endured a frustrating IPL 2026 campaign marked by injuries, inconsistent performances and multiple squad changes. The team has already been knocked out of playoff contention and is now focused on finishing the season on a positive note.

The arrival of Lomror and Ahir gives MI additional squad balance for their remaining fixtures. While the season has not gone according to plan, the franchise will hope the new additions can bring fresh energy and help the team close the campaign with improved performances.
