Pakistan cricket has once again been thrown into uncertainty after the team’s crushing defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test at Dhaka. Following the embarrassing loss, the Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly planning a major leadership change, with former captain Babar Azam emerging as the frontrunner to take over the Test captaincy once again.

PCB unhappy after Bangladesh defeat

The defeat exposed Pakistan’s struggles in both batting and bowling, triggering widespread criticism from fans and former cricketers. Questions are now being raised over Shan Masood’s future as Test skipper, with reports claiming the PCB is unhappy with the team’s direction under his leadership. The board is believed to be considering immediate changes ahead of the second Test.

Pakistan’s heavy defeat has intensified pressure on the management, especially after the team failed to put up a competitive performance in Dhaka. Critics have pointed at the lack of consistency, tactical clarity, and leadership within the side. The result has further deepened concerns around Pakistan’s red-ball future in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

Babar Azam set for captaincy return?

Babar Azam, who missed the opening match because of injury concerns, is expected to return for the next Test against Bangladesh. His comeback could also coincide with a return to leadership responsibilities. PCB officials reportedly feel Babar remains the most dependable figure to steady the side during a turbulent phase for Pakistan cricket.
