At the start of February, gold and silver prices had fallen sharply, offering relief to jewellery-buying middle-class families. However, in recent days, both precious metals have begun climbing again. On Wednesday, prices rose further in Kolkata’s market. While the increase in gold was relatively moderate, silver recorded a sharper jump.
In Kolkata, the price of 24-carat gold rose by ₹450 per 10 grams, and 22-carat jewellery gold also increased by ₹450 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, silver prices surged by ₹3,450 per kilogram.

Gold rates in Kolkata's market on Wednesday: (excluding taxes)
Pure gold bar (24-carat): 1 lakh 60 thousand rupees (per 10 grams)
Pure gold bar (retail): 1 lakh 60 thousand 400 rupees (per 10 grams)
Hallmarked jewelry gold (22-carat): 1 lakh 52 thousand 850 rupees (per 10 grams)
Silver (retail): 2 lakh 70 thousand 300 rupees (per kilogram)
