Gold and silver prices have been maintaining an upward trend since last year and continued rising in the first month of the new year, have declined sharply at the beginning of February. Over the past two days, Thursday and Friday, prices of both metals used in jewellery making have fallen consecutively in Kolkata’s market.
As a result of the recent correction, the price of jewellery gold in Kolkata has fallen below ₹1.5 lakh per 10 grams, excluding taxes. Silver prices remain around ₹2.5 lakh per kilogram.

Sharp decline in gold and silver prices
On Friday, the price of 24-carat pure gold per 10 grams in Kolkata decreased by ₹2,150. The price of 22-carat gold jewellery per 10 grams fell by ₹2,050. Silver prices dropped by ₹10,750 per kilogram.

Pure gold bar (24 carat): ₹1,54,150 per 10 grams
Pure gold bar (retail): ₹1,54,950 per 10 grams
Hallmark jewellery gold (22 carat): ₹1,47,250 per 10 grams
Silver (retail): ₹2,51,750 per kilogram

Consumers will not be able to buy gold at these base rates in the market, as additional charges apply. GST at 3 per cent and jewellery-making charges will be added to these prices. While GST is fixed, the charges vary from shop to shop.
