The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Police Officer Manoranjan Mondal once again in connection with the coal smuggling case. The officer has been asked to appear at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake on Friday. Followeing previous summons of last Monday, which Mondal reportedly did not comply with. Alongside him, the ED has also summoned businessman Prabir Datta of Durgapur SEPCO Township for questioning in the same case.

Previous summons and background
Mondal had previously been summoned by the ED last Monday but did not appear. His past is marked by controversy: in 2024, he was reprimanded by a senior state administration official, and a departmental inquiry was ordered against him, leading to his suspension.
Investigation targets alleged financial transactions
Earlier on the 3rd this month, the ED conducted a search at Manoranjan Mondal’s residence. According to ED sources, his name has surfaced in connection with transactions involving large amounts of alleged ‘protection money’ linked to coal smuggling. Searches were also conducted at Prabir Datta’s house. Authorities are examining whether he had any involvement in illegal financial transactions connected to the coal smuggling allegations.

ED officials said the investigation is gradually tightening, and summoning Manoranjan and Prabir is part of this process. Questions remain about whether both individuals will appear for questioning as scheduled.
