Bollywood mourns the loss of Dharmendra; a legendary actor whose six-decade career and unmatched charisma left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema.

Bollywood is mourning the loss of one of its most loved icons: Dharmendra. The legendary actor's life, spent in a career spanning over six decades, has left an indelible mark on Bollywood, and his absence has created a kind of void felt across generations among fans, colleagues, and admirers alike.

Heartfelt tributes pour in

As news of his death got out, tributes began pouring in from all corners of the industry. Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a photograph of Dharmendra with Randhir Kapoor and wrote simply, yet powerfully, “Forever in Power.”

Filmmaker Karan Johar paid an emotional tribute and termed the moment as “the end of an era.” Johar wrote, “It is an end of an ERA….. a massive mega star… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence … he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema… defining and richly present in the pages of cinema history … but mostly he was the best human being… he was so loved by everyone in our industry.”

He added further, “He only had immense love and positivity for everyone … his blessings, his hug and his incredible warmth will be missed more than words can describe …. Today there is a gaping hole in our industry … a space that can never be filled by anyone … there will always be the one and only DHARAMJI… we love you kind Sir…. We will miss you so much…. The heavens are blessed today…. It will always be my blessing to have worked with you…. And my heart says with respect, reverence and love…. Abhi Na jao chodke…. Ke dil abhi bhara nahi……OM SHANTI.”

Fond memories from co-stars

Many actors shared personal anecdotes and memories. Kajol posted a picture of Dharmendra with her son, calling him "the OG of the Good Man" and reflecting on how the world is feeling "poorer" without him.

Designer Manish Malhotra recalled meeting the actor on the sets of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, praising his style, charm and effortless charisma. Farhan Akhtar said Dharmendra's death was "a big, big loss" to movie lovers everywhere, adding he feels grateful that the legendary actor left behind "six decades of unforgettable performances" and "his kindness on and off screen".

Boman Irani took to Instagram, writing, “It is painful to write this…But, as we rewind that reel of joy that he brought to millions like me, the teardrop drops down one’s cheek with gratitude and awe. A face of rugged handsomeness, yet he exuded kindness like no other. Intense when he had to be and yet boyish and funny on another day. He had something for everyone. Romantic for some, macho for the other, but benevolent for all. As he stands up on that Giant Water Tank in the Sky, we say goodbye and will always be grateful for the wonderful memories.”

Ajay Devgn termed the news "heart-wrenching," adding that Dharmendra's presence and generosity motivated generations. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who was privileged to meet the star multiple times-remembered him as vibrant, humorous, and full of life. Shilpa Shetty wrote, “I’ve had the privilege of working with many talented actors, but none with a bigger heart than yours.”
