Border 2, led by Sunny Deol, continued its dominant run at the domestic box office, crossing the mark of ₹150 crore within four days of its release. The war drama saw a sharp jump in collections on Republic Day, pushing its total India net to approximately ₹180 crore.

The film, which also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan and Ahaan Shetty, benefited from the extended holiday weekend and strong footfalls across mass and urban centres.

Republic Day push lifts collections

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 earned ₹59 crore on Monday which is its highest single-day collection so far. The figure is also being cited as one of the biggest Republic Day box office hauls in recent years.

The film opened with ₹30 crore on Friday, followed by ₹36.5 crore on Saturday. Sunday witnessed a steep rise of nearly 50 per cent, helping the film enter the ₹100 crore club before the Republic Day boost consolidated its lead.

With these numbers, Border 2 has already surpassed the opening weekend performance of Dhurandhar, which had earlier dominated the box office charts.

Trade and industry reactions

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh described the film’s box office momentum as a “tsunami,” pointing to exceptional performance in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.

He pointed out that while the metropolitan cities have remained steady, it was the mass belts that have provided this extraordinary occupancy, with several circuits reporting housefull shows despite the buzz on social media about the film.

Filmmaker Karan Johar also responded to the back-to-back success of the films at the box office, saying on social media that the success of Dhurandhar followed by Border 2 is a sign that audiences have regained confidence in Hindi cinema.

Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh and is produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and Krishan Kumar. The film is touted to be a large-scale war film with robust nationalist sentiments, and the timing of the release is strategic to coincide with Republic Day celebrations.

With the weekday trend now established, trade analysts are eagerly waiting to see how the film performs for the rest of the week.
