Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King has locked its theatrical release for December 24, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a new promotional video that offers a first look at the actor’s intense character, quickly drawing attention across social media.

New promo hints at a darker character

The video, shared by Red Chillies Entertainment, opens with Shah Rukh Khan’s striking appearance, followed by his line, “Darr nahi, dehshat hoon.” The dialogue sets the tone for a character that leans into darker shades.

The caption read, “A ROAR loud enough to shake the KINGdom. #KING arriving on 24.12.2026 #ItsKINGTime.”

Soon after its release, the clip gained traction online, with fans reacting enthusiastically. Comments ranged from anticipation for the release date to excitement over the actor’s screen presence.

Star cast and debut on the big screen

Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is positioned as a high-energy action entertainer. It also marks the big-screen debut of Suhana Khan, who will share screen space with her father.

The film features an ensemble cast including Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Raghav Juyal and Abhay Verma.

Shah Rukh Khan on playing ‘King’

At an earlier fan interaction, Shah Rukh Khan spoke about his approach to roles and how he views the idea of heroes and villains.

“This distinction has been created by people: hero, villain. In my early career, I did ‘Darr’. Which, by today’s standards, might be considered villainous or like a stalker. And I was in ‘Don’, I was in ‘Anjaam’, I was in ‘Baazigar’- I played the ‘bad’ guy. I just feel that if we don’t do something interesting in a film, then the hero just comes in, sings two songs, fights, and leaves," he said.

He also described his role in King, highlighting its layered nature. “The character of King is very interesting. Siddharth and Sujoy Ghosh have written it with a lot of love. And it has a lot of evil in it. He’s a killer. He kills people," said Shah Rukh Khan.

Speaking about his choices as an actor, he added, “But for storytelling, it’s very important that heroes like me play different roles: some inspiring, some comic, some romantic. So that’s what I’m trying to do now. I do a big, good film in 1–2 years. Because I also know that making films has become very difficult now. So films should be made carefully so that I don’t let people down."
