Bollywood actor Tabu had a warm and unexpected reunion with Fatima Sana Shaikh at the red carpet event for Ikkis on Monday, sparking a wave of nostalgia among fans and photographers alike.

As the two met on the carpet, Tabu greeted Fatima with a hug and gently reminded the paparazzi of their shared past on screen. In a video shared online, she is seen smiling and saying, “Ye meri beti bani thi… Chachi 420,” drawing attention to their collaboration from over two decades ago.

A bond that goes back to 1997

Fatima had played Tabu’s daughter in the 1997 family entertainer, which starred Kamal Haasan in the lead. The moment resonated strongly, given Fatima’s journey from child actor to leading performer. The reunion also echoed Fatima’s earlier public wish to work with Tabu again. In an Instagram interaction last year, she had shared throwback pictures from the Chachi 420 sets and responded to a fan query by writing, “Dying to work with her!!! Biggest fan @tabutiful.”

Directed by Kamal Haasan, Chachi 420 remains a much-loved film, remembered for its humour and heart. An Indian adaptation of Mrs Doubtfire, it featured an ensemble cast including Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Walker, Rajendranath Zutshi and Ayesha Jhulka.

On the professional front, Tabu is set to return to work soon. She is expected to join Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran in Goa for the next schedule of Drishyam 3. The film, described as the final chapter in the franchise, is slated for release on October 2, 2026.
