Filmmaker Anik Dutta has died after reportedly falling from the terrace of his South Kolkata residence on Wednesday morning. According to sources at Gariahat Police Station, he was rushed to a private hospital in South Kolkata, where doctors declared him dead.
.Dutta was living in a residential complex near Gariahat, but had reportedly visited the Hindustan Park flat of his wife, Sandhi Dutta, on Wednesday.
Preliminary information suggests that the filmmaker had been battling health complications for a long time and was also reportedly suffering from depression. Investigators are therefore not ruling out the possibility of suicide at this stage. Police from Gariahat Police Station, along with the homicide department, have reached the spot and begun an investigation. The area beneath the residence has been cordoned off, while locals and several prominent personalities have gathered outside the filmmakerâs home following the tragic incident.
