Residents across South Bengal may finally get relief from the ongoing spell of heat and humidity, with thunderstorms and rain expected to arrive from Wednesday. The Alipore Meteorological Department has indicated a shift in weather conditions, bringing hope for a break from the uncomfortable climate.
Weather shift begins today across South Bengal
According to the weather office, South Bengal will begin to see changing conditions from today. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely, with a possibility of Nor’wester activity. Hailstorms and strong lightning activity may also occur in some areas.
Morning hours are expected to remain hot and humid, especially in districts such as Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram and Paschim Bardhaman. Other districts will also experience discomfort due to high moisture levels in the air.
Nor’wester rain may bring relief to Kolkata today. /ANI As the day progresses, partial cloud cover and gusty winds are likely to develop. This could bring some relief from heat and humidity in several regions. Rain-bearing clouds are expected to build up later in the day.
Districts where thunderstorms with rain are more likely include Birbhum, Nadia, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Bankura, Purulia, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram.
North Bengal to see scattered rainfall
In North Bengal, very heavy rainfall is not expected after Wednesday afternoon. However, scattered rain will continue till Friday.
Till Wednesday afternoon, isolated heavy rainfall may occur in Dakshin Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri. Other districts could witness thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds ranging between 40 to 50 km per hour.
On Thursday, similar weather conditions are expected across all districts. In Malda, Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur, wind speeds may reach up to 50 km per hour.
North Bengal to see scattered rain and gusty winds /ANI From Friday to Sunday, the intensity of rain and storm activity is expected to decrease gradually across North Bengal.
Cyclonic system driving weather change
A cyclonic circulation has formed over South Bihar. From this system, a trough extends up to the Andhra Pradesh coast, passing through Jharkhand and Odisha. This weather pattern is influencing conditions over Bengal.
Due to this system, thunderstorms and rain are expected to affect all districts of South Bengal on Thursday and Friday.
Kolkata likely to see storms, winds and cooler conditions. Districts likely to witness nor’wester
Nor’wester activity is likely in Birbhum, Murshidabad, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and Paschim Bardhaman.
There is also a possibility of such storms in South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur and Bankura.
The expected rainfall and storm activity may bring some respite from the prevailing heat, though thunderstorms and lightning remain a concern across several districts.
