Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo has been left devastated after his wife and two children were confirmed dead following the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week.
Trejo, who plays for Venezuelan second-division club Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira, was in Caracas with his team when the twin earthquakes hit the country’s northern coast. His family was at home in La Guaira when their apartment building collapsed.
The defender immediately rushed back and joined rescue teams in searching through the rubble, hoping to find his loved ones alive. The search continued for nearly three days before authorities recovered the bodies of his wife, Yanina Maranella, and the couple’s two children, Aarón and Ainhoa.
Club pays tribute after tragic loss
Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, expressing its deepest condolences to Trejo and his family.
