Pakistan are expected to ring in major changes to their Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against the West Indies, with several senior players, including left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, likely to be left out. The move is part of the selectors’ plan to rebuild the red-ball side after a string of inconsistent performances.

According to NDTV Sports reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee is preparing a squad that will feature several new faces. Alongside Shaheen, fast bowlers Naseem Shah and Hasan Ali are also expected to miss out, while veteran spinner Nauman Ali could lose his place. The selectors are reportedly keen to reward players who have performed consistently in domestic cricket.

Fresh faces set to get opportunities

Shaheen’s expected omission is one of the biggest talking points ahead of the tour. Although he remains an integral part of Pakistan’s white-ball teams, his recent Test form and limited first-class appearances are believed to have influenced the decision. The management is looking to prioritise bowlers with regular red-ball experience as it reshapes the Test setup.

The expected changes also signal Pakistan’s intent to build a younger pace attack capable of delivering consistently in overseas conditions.

Several uncapped and emerging players are likely to receive opportunities as the team begins a new cycle in Test cricket.

Important tour ahead

Pakistan will tour the West Indies for a two-match Test series, with the first Test scheduled to begin on July 25, followed by the second on August 2. The series will mark an important step in Pakistan’s efforts to rebuild its Test side and identify players who can form the core of the team in the coming years.
