Brazil will once again have to navigate life without Neymar, as the superstar forward will not travel with the team for their FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage clash against Haiti. The Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed that the 34-year-old will remain in New Jersey to continue his recovery from a calf injury.
The decision reflects Brazil's cautious strategy around their biggest player, with the coaching and medical staff prioritising his long-term availability over rushing him back for an early group-stage fixture.
Although his recovery has shown positive signs over the last few days, Brazil are determined to avoid any unnecessary risks.
Brazil keeping Neymar under close watch
According to the Brazilian Football Confederation, Neymar will stay back to complete the final stage of his rehabilitation programme.
The federation said he would continue training at the facilities available at The Ridge hotel and the Columbia Park training centre in New Jersey.
The injury dates back to May 17 when Neymar suffered a calf problem while playing for Santos in a league defeat against Coritiba. The setback once again disrupted his efforts to regain full fitness after a series of injury struggles in recent years.
Brazil's medical team has been monitoring his progress daily before deciding against including him in the travelling squad for the Haiti encounter.

Positive signs emerge during training sessions
There is, however, growing optimism around Neymar's condition.
According to India TV, the veteran attacker returned to the training pitch earlier this week and participated in selected drills alongside his teammates before resuming individual exercises.
It marked his first meaningful outdoor session since sustaining the injury.
Before that, Neymar had largely been confined to gym work and physiotherapy sessions with Brazil's support staff.
His gradual reintegration into training suggests a return is getting closer, but the team is unwilling to compromise his fitness for short-term gains.

Brazil target knockout-stage return for talisman
India TV indicates that Brazil are eyeing the knockout rounds for Neymar's return rather than forcing him into action during the group stage.
The five-time world champions know the importance of having an experienced playmaker available when the tournament reaches its decisive phase.
Brazil opened their campaign with a draw against Morocco and currently have one point from their opening match. Haiti, meanwhile, sit at the bottom of Group C after losing their first fixture.
Even without Neymar, Brazil will be expected to secure a positive result and strengthen their position in the group.
