Once again, a Kashmir resident has been arrested in Arunachal Pradesh on charges of spying for Pakistan. The arrest was made late Friday night in Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The 26-year-old individual has been identified as Hilal Ahmed. According to police sources, Hilal is accused of sending sensitive information to his handler in Pakistan.
Earlier, two other Kashmir residents had been arrested in Arunachal Pradesh on charges of spying for Pakistan. The first to be arrested was Nazir Ahmed Malik. He was arrested on November 22 on the same charges. Nazir is accused of passing on all information about the security forces' movement in that area to his Pakistani handler. He is a resident of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. Sabir Ahmed Mir, also a resident of the same district, was arrested in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

The incidents of Kashmir residents being caught on espionage charges in Arunachal Pradesh have caused concern among security agencies. According to a report by a national news agency, West Siang police informed that the person arrested on Friday night had come to Arunachal Pradesh on November 25 to attend a trade fair. He also had a valid Inner Line Permit. Investigators detained him based on specific intelligence and handed him over to the police in Itanagar.
According to police sources, Nazir Ahmed Malik, who was arrested first, confessed during interrogation that he had leaked information about security forces' movement in that area. Based on his interrogation, investigators cast their net to catch the others. According to sources, the same handler was in contact with all three who have been arrested.
