A special investigation team of the Assam Police launched an inquiry following the unnatural death of Assam's legendary singer Zubeen Garg. Three months into the investigation, Assam Police has filed a 3,500-page chargesheet in the case. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier alleged that the singer was murdered, and the comment had sparked widespread sensation.
When was the chargesheet submitted?
It has been learned that the chargesheet in Zubeen Garg's death case was submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Friday under tight security. The chargesheet was taken to court, packed in four trunks along with all the evidence. The contents of the chargesheet are still unknown.

Zubeen Garg's death
Zubin Garg died suddenly while swimming in Singapore on September 19, 2025. He visited Singapore as the brand ambassador of the 'North East India Festival.' But before the festival began, on the afternoon of September 19, he went on a yacht trip with members of the 'Assam Association Singapore.' While touring on the yacht, he lost consciousness while scuba diving in the sea. After being pulled from the water, he was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The entire state of Assam became turbulent following this incident. Initially, charges were filed under two sections - criminal conspiracy and death due to negligence. Murder charges were added later. The Assam government formed an SIT under the leadership of DGP M.P. Gupta to investigate the singer's death.
Who have been arrested in the case so far?
The SIT has arrested 7 people in the case so far. Among them are festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta and Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma. Three people who were with Zubeen in Singapore were also arrested - his cousin and Assam Police Service officer Sandipon Garg, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and band member Amritprabha Mahanta. Besides this, Assam Police also arrested Zubeen's two personal security officers (PSO), Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora.
