The festival of colours turned tragic in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, where a four-year-old boy was severely injured after his grandmother allegedly threw scalding hot water on him during Holi celebrations. The disturbing incident occurred on March 3 in Ward No. 2 of the Aramshin area in Koradi and was captured on CCTV, reported Hindustan Times.
According to police reports, the child, identified as Om, was playing outside his house with a spray bottle filled with colour. He accidentally sprayed some colour on his grandmother, identified as Sindhu Thackeray, who was reportedly filling a bucket with water heated on Holi wood. Enraged by the act, she allegedly poured the boiling water on the child.

CCTV footage captures shocking moment
The viral video shows the grandmother, dressed in a black saree, carrying a bucket of water. The child can be seen approaching her playfully and spraying colour, following which she throws a bucket full of hot water on him. The boy is seen shrieking in pain and jumping away.
Another woman nearby rushed with a bucket, reportedly containing cold water, and poured it over the child in an attempt to reduce the burning sensation. Moments later, the grandmother is also seen throwing cold water on him. Om sustained severe burns below the waist and was admitted to a private hospital in Nagpur, where doctors estimated around 45 per cent burn injuries. Police have initiated the process of registering an offence against the woman.

11 injured in Barabanki over Holi dispute
In a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, at least 11 people were injured after a dispute over playing with colours escalated into violence. Two groups reportedly engaged in a heated argument that soon turned into a physical clash, HT reported.

According to police, the groups allegedly attacked each other with sticks, batons, and iron rods for nearly ten minutes, triggering panic in the locality. Locals intervened to bring the situation under control. A resident, Avdesh, told PTI that members of a rival group entered his house in the absence of male members and assaulted his family. Police said the situation is currently under control.
The back-to-back incidents have cast a shadow over the spirit of Holi. Authorities have assured strict action in both cases, urging citizens to celebrate responsibly and avoid violence in the name of festivity.
