A shocking incident in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district has left a woman critically injured after she was allegedly shot at close range in broad daylight. The violent attack, captured on CCTV, unfolded on a residential street and has sparked concern over public safety and bystander inaction, reported NDTV.
Attack caught on camera
The incident took place at 4.30 pm on Saturday in a residential area of the Patti city. In the CCTV footage, a man and a woman are seen riding a scooter together when another scooter, driven by a man wearing a red t-shirt, suddenly intercepted them. The man wearing the red shirt, who has been identified as Karan by the police, was a part of the altercation.

According to the footage, Karan stepped off his scooter and immediately slapped the man accompanying the woman. As tensions escalated, the woman, identified as Ruby Mehra, attempted to intervene and stop the assault. Despite her efforts, the accused allegedly continued beating the man.
When Ruby tried to escape from the situation, Karan reportedly chased her, pulled out a firearm, and shot her in the head at close range. The footage shows her collapsing onto the road while the accused allegedly fired several more shots before fleeing the scene on his scooter, reported NDTV.
Victim in critical condition
Ruby Mehra, who had reportedly married only a few months earlier, was rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar. She remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
During the incident, several vehicles were seen passing through the area, but none reportedly stopped to intervene while the attack was taking place.
Police investigation
Initial police findings suggest that the accused and the victim lived in the same locality, Garden Colony in Patti city, and were known to each other. Investigators suspect the attack may have been driven by personal obsession.
