A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his father with an axe following a dispute over drinking. The incident took place on Monday night in Ambikapur town of Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Parash Kerketta (50), who lived alone in a house in the Beharapara area. His son, Prabhat, lived separately in a rented accommodation nearby.

According to police sources, Prabhat went to meet his father at around 11 PM on Monday. He was allegedly in an intoxicated state. An argument broke out between the two over the son's drinking habit. Police said the father had earlier objected to his son's drinking, leading to frequent disputes.

Alleged attack and disposal of body

Investigators said that during the altercation, Prabhat allegedly entered a room, picked up an axe, and struck his father on the head multiple times. Parash collapsed on the spot in a bloodied condition.

Police further stated that the accused then dumped the body in a water tank near the house. After the incident, he allegedly went out to eat biryani. He later returned home and slept through the night.

On Tuesday morning, neighbours grew suspicious when they did not see Parash coming out of his house. They informed the police.

Arrest and investigation

Police reached the spot after receiving information. A forensic team was also called to the scene. The area was cordoned off, and samples were collected as part of the investigation.
