Instagram relationship gone wrong
According to investigators, the accused, identified as Sharath, and the 20-year-old victim, Anusha, were both natives of Sakleshpur in Karnataka's Hassan district.
The two reportedly became friends on Instagram around a year ago before entering into a relationship and moving in together in Bengaluru.
Argument escalated into violence
Police told the Mint that the incident occurred on Saturday night when the couple allegedly consumed alcohol and became involved in a heated argument over personal and family-related issues. Investigators believe the dispute escalated, leading Sharath to allegedly strangle Anusha inside their rented residence.
Authorities added that the woman died at the scene. The accused allegedly remained away from the police for nearly two days after the incident.
Lawyer alerts police
The crime came to light after Sharath reportedly approached an advocate and informed him about the incident. The lawyer subsequently alerted the police, prompting officers from the Seshadripuram Police Station to inspect the residence and begin an investigation.
