Two people were killed and three others critically injured after two trucks collided on the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway in Ghaziabad early Monday morning, police said.

The accident occurred in the Tronica City police station area when a truck allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the expressway crashed head-on into another goods vehicle. The impact of the collision left both trucks severely damaged and triggered traffic disruption on the busy route.

Police and emergency teams rushed to the site soon after the crash and began rescue operations with the help of local residents and commuters.

Wrong-side driving suspected in crash

According to preliminary findings, the accident took place near the Garhi Kateya cut along the expressway. A truck returning after unloading bricks in Delhi reportedly lost control while travelling in the wrong direction and collided with a cement-laden truck.

The force of the crash caused one of the vehicles to veer off the road and hit a nearby police check post. The two trucks were badly mangled following the impact.

Police officials said traffic movement on the expressway slowed temporarily as emergency personnel cleared debris from the site.

Victims identified, injured shifted to Delhi hospital

The victims were identified as Javed (23) of Pavi in Sadakpur and Lokesh (38) of Gangavali in Bulandshahr. Both were declared dead upon being taken to the hospital.

As per a report by Daily Jagran, three others have suffered serious injuries in the accident. They were initially taken to the combined hospital in Loni and later referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi. Both the vehicles have been seized. They have registration numbers UP 16 RT 0856 and UP 12 AT 4363, said Siddharth Gautam, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Loni).

"Initial investigation suggests that one of the trucks coming from the Khajuri side was moving against the flow of traffic, which led to the collision,” Gautam said. Police said further investigation is underway to determine responsibility for the crash.
