As singer Arijit Singh said that he will no longer perform playback songs for movies, the music industry has been in a panic. Many fans seemed surprised by the decision, which also caused discussions in the industry. Renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal has also expressed her opinions on the matter, praising Arijit's bravery and disclosing that she had thought about taking a break from playback singing.
Shreya Ghosal about Arijit Singh's retirement
In a recent interview with ABP News, Shreya Ghoshal shared her own relationship with music and performing, and also talked about Arijit Singh’s decision to quit from playback singing. Shreya underlined that her identity as an artist has a strong connection to her live singing. She explained that she hates and doesn't want to depend on lip-syncing during shows.
She said, “I feel very uncomfortable with that. I will stop singing the day I have to do that.” Her reaction to Arijit’s decision was that she appreciated him for bravery and respect towards his own artistic instincts.

She further added, “I also feel like taking a break sometimes. He took that decision very bravely…He is a musician from the heart. He doesn’t think about why he is making music or what he will get from it. He just does what makes him happy.” Shreya believes that audiences are attracted to Arijit because of his true passion for music. She continued saying that fans truly respect Arijit because his music is always more important to him than popularity or fame.
Shreya's early career in Bollywood
Shreya started her career as a playback singer with Devdas, which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with music by Ismail Darbar. She won the National Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Bairi Piya" from the movie.
She has recorded songs in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam over the years. The Unstoppable World Tour, which includes shows in the UK, USA, India, and Abu Dhabi, was also recently revealed by Shreya.
Arijit Singh's retirement
On January 27, Arijit Singh announced that he would no longer take playback singing assignments for films. In his post, he wrote, “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

Later, he clarified that he is going to start his own music after his retirement announcement. In January, he unveiled his first independent track, “Raina,” right after his retirement.
