Weather authorities have issued warnings over worsening weather conditions across Andhra Pradesh, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected to affect several regions in the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) have both flagged the possibility of storm activity continuing until March 19. While the IMD has highlighted rising wind speeds and lightning risks, the SDMA has warned of additional rainfall caused by atmospheric pressure activity in the northern districts of the state.

The alert covers a wide geographical area, including North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema, as well as districts such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Parvatipuram Manyam.

The SDMA stated, "Due to the influence of a trough and south-westerly winds, there is a possibility of light to moderate rains accompanied by lightning at several places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Parvatipuram Manyam districts."

Storm intensity expected to increase

At present, wind speeds in some parts of the state have reached around 50 km per hour, and these conditions are expected to continue until March 17.

From March 18 to March 19, wind speeds could increase further to around 60 km per hour in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema, according to weather officials.

The IMD added, "Thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning is expected at isolated places, with wind speeds ranging up to 50 km per hour."

Advisory for residents

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious during sudden weather changes. The SDMA has issued a public safety advisory warning people not to take shelter under trees during lightning activity.

Weather conditions across the state are also expected to remain mixed. While some areas may experience cloud cover and rainfall, other regions could continue to face persistent heat.
