A research student from IIT Kharagpur was rescued from the railway tracks. On Saturday late night, the student named Shravan Kumar (27) was rescued by GRP from the railway tracks near Kharagpur station and Puri Gate adjacent to IIT Kharagpur. Police officers from Hijli outpost were also present there. The injured student was first taken to the Kharagpur subdivision hospital after being rescued. He was then transferred from there to a private hospital in Kolkata. Shravan died there on Sunday at 9 PM while undergoing treatment, it has been learned. The student's home was in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. How did he reach the railway tracks? This has created confusion. GRP and police are investigating the incident.

According to sources, this student was a resident of Meghnad Saha Hall at IIT Kharagpur. A district police officer said, "How this accident occurred, which train hit the student, is being investigated." The student's body will be sent for post-mortem; it has been learned.
Notably, this makes a total of seven students and researchers from IIT Kharagpur who have died unnaturally this year alone. Among them, five were found hanging. On September 20, the hanging body of a researcher named Harshkumar Pandey was recovered from room number 577 of B.R. Ambedkar Hall.
