'City of nawabs' turns into 'gamla chor' after PM's event in Lucknow

Several commuters can be seen dotting the road to take away the flower pots placed for decoration ahead of PM's inauguration of the Rashhtra Prerna Sthal. The visuals from the stealing act have gone viral on social media

Just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rashtra Prerna Sthal, in Lucknow, on December 25 (Thursday), several commuters were seen walking away with flower pots on Friday.

As many as 4,000 pots were stolen, according to an official from the Horticulture department of the Lucknow Development Authority.

These pots were placed alongside the roads for temporary decoration ahead of the PM's visit but with the event having ended, people rushed to the area and picked up the pots. In one video, a man rising a scooty can be seen attempting to collected several flower pots while holding a BJP flag in one hand!

Not just men, but women with toddlers in hand were also seen balancing pots on two-wheelers!

Visuals from the 'theft' went viral on social media immediately with people calling these people 'gamla chor' and criticising the brazen act. Some people even said that these people should be punished for the theft.

The inauguration

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rashtra Prerna Sthal on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is spread like a lotus and spans over 65 acres near the bank of the Gomti River. The Sthal has a 65-foot bronze statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Lucknow Development Authority has constructed a complex that costs Rs 230 crore off the Gomti River in the Basant Kunj Yojana area of Dubagga, which encompasses a total area of 65 acres. Prior to this, the property was used as a site for disposals and was estimated to contain approximately 6,50,000 metric tons of solid waste. The waste was recovered and processed to prepare the property redevelopment.
