With the weatherman predicting a dip in temperatures for Kolkata and surrounding districts, the Kolkata Police on December 25 (Thursday) issued a 'fog safety alert' which urges riders to drive carefully and cautiously.
The advisory
In a six-point advisory on X, the Kolkata Traffic Police asked people to drive slowly, avoid overspeeding, overtaking and sudden lane changes. The people were also asked to use low-beam and fog lights, thereby reducing chances of any mishaps. Apart from this, the police urged drivers and motorists to maintain safe distance with other vehicles and apply brakes gently.

The Kolkata Police also asked motorists and drivers not to step on carriageway and use hazard lights and keep dippers on while parking their vehicles.
"Fog hides danger," said the Kolkata Traffic police in the post on X.
Highlighting that dense fog in the early hours of the day leads to several accidents and fatalities, the Kolkata Traffic Police cautioned "DRIVE SAFELY, ARRIVE EARLY".
Accident-prone areas
The police have informed that fog creates challenges for drivers in areas near EM Bypass, Red Road, Kidderpore, Diamond Harbour, Basanti Highway, Salt Lake Highway and around Maidan.

Weather forecast
The MeT has predicted a plunge in temperatures by another 2-3 degrees in the next two days. A yellow alert for dense fog has also been issued for several South Bengal districts.
This year, at 13.7 degrees, the city-dwellers woke up to the coldest Christmas morning after 9 years. This was also the lowest temperature experienced this season so far. On December 25, 2016, the city had recorded 13.4 degrees.
