A 16-year-old Class 10 student in Greater Noida died by suicide on December 23, hours after being questioned by her school authorities over the suspected use of artificial intelligence during a pre-board examination, police officials said on Saturday.
According to the police, the student jumped from her eighth-floor apartment in Greater Noida West early on the day of the incident. Her family has filed a complaint alleging mental harassment by the school and has sought action for abetment to suicide.
What the family has alleged
In his complaint to the police, the girl’s father said that his eldest daughter had “unknowingly” carried her mobile phone to school on the day of the pre-board examination. The phone was allegedly noticed by an invigilator, who reprimanded the student and informed her class teacher. She was later taken to the school principal for questioning.

The parents were called to the school, where, according to the complaint, the student was repeatedly reprimanded. The father alleged that the girl was called “careless” and was subjected to aggressive remarks that left her deeply distressed.
He named the class teacher, Poonam Dubey, another teacher identified as Taapas, and the school management in his complaint. The FIR request alleges mental harassment and abetment to suicide.
The father told police that his daughter remained disturbed after returning home from school on December 22 and took the extreme step the following morning.
School denies harassment claims
The school principal, speaking to The Times of India, denied allegations of harassment. She said the student was reprimanded in accordance with CBSE guidelines and was informed about the consequences of cheating in board examinations, including a possible five-year ban.
“The interaction was brief and non-abusive. The parents were informed immediately and reached the school within 10 to 15 minutes,” the principal said, adding that no derogatory language was used.
