Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital, ANI reported on Tuesday citing hospital sources. Doctors said her condition is stable and she is responding well to treatment.
Hospital officials confirmed that the 79-year-old leader was admitted around 10 pm on Monday and is currently under the care of a chest physician. She is being kept under observation as a precaution.

According to Dr Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Gandhi was experiencing respiratory discomfort. Medical examination showed a mild exacerbation of bronchial asthma, triggered by cold weather and the prevailing pollution levels in Delhi.
âAs a precautionary measure, she was admitted for observation and treatment. At present, her condition is absolutely stable. She is responding well to treatment and is being managed with antibiotics and supportive medication,â Dr Swaroop said to ANI. He added that a decision on her discharge will be taken by the treating doctors based on her clinical progress and is likely within a day or two.
Doctors link admission to respiratory discomfort aggravated by weather and pollution
Sources said Gandhi has a history of chronic cough and routinely undergoes medical check-ups, particularly during the winter months when air quality in Delhi worsens. Doctors noted that pollution and cold conditions often aggravate respiratory issues, especially in elderly patients.
This is not the first time the former Congress president has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. In February this year, she was hospitalised briefly for a stomach-related issue and discharged the next day after medical evaluation.
In June, she was again admitted to the same hospital for an abdominal infection and remained under observation for four days before being discharged. She has also undergone routine medical check-ups outside Delhi, including at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla last year.

In September 2022, Gandhi had travelled to the United States for a deferred medical check-up that was postponed earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She was accompanied by her son and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during that visit.
Hospital sources said she remains under close observation and there is no cause for concern at present.
