Delhi Police has taken strict action after violence broke out during the demolition of illegal constructions in Delhi's Turkman Gate area. An eviction drive was underway on Wednesday morning near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque, close to Ramlila Maidan. During the operation, rumours spread on social media claiming that part of the mosque had been demolished, which led to unrest across the area.
Police said at least 30 people have been identified as suspects, and arrest warrants have been issued. Search operations are currently underway to trace them.
Violence during eviction drive
According to police, an angry mob started pelting stones and glass bottles at police personnel and municipal workers during the drive. Five police officers were seriously injured. To control the situation, police used tear gas and carried out a lathi charge. Five people were arrested on the same day, while others were identified using CCTV footage.

Police said around 100 to 150 people had gathered at the site. While many left after persuasion, a group created chaos and triggered the violence. More than 400 videos related to the incident have surfaced and are being used to identify those involved.
MP to be questioned, mosque not damaged
Police have alleged that Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi instigated the violence. Sources said he was present at the spot and was seen arguing with police in a video that went viral. A decision has been taken to question him.
