Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that accountability must be fixed as controversy grows over an NCERT Class 8 textbook chapter on “corruption” in the judiciary, government sources told NDTV. Quoting the Prime Minister, who is currently in Israel, a government source said he questioned oversight in the matter, asking, “Kaun dekh raha hai ye sab (Who is looking after all this).”

Markets open flat amid weak global cues, investors stay cautious

Benchmark indices opened on a subdued note, tracking weakness in US technology stocks and softer trends across Asian markets. In the absence of strong domestic triggers, the markets are expected to remain in a consolidation phase. Investor sentiment also turned cautious after US-Iran talks concluded without any agreement. At 9:16 am, the Sensex was down 257.89 points or 0.31% at 81,990.72, while the broader Nifty slipped 90.35 points or 0.35% to 25,406.20.

Slight dip in temperature, but winter unlikely to return

The city recorded a slight fall in the minimum temperature on Friday, raising brief speculation about a winter comeback. Kolkata’s minimum temperature stood at 18.6 degrees Celsius, which is 1.8 degrees below normal. The maximum humidity was recorded at 85 percent, while the minimum was 36 percent.
