Dharmendra Pradhan’s declared wealth has come under fresh scrutiny after he stepped down as Union education minister on Saturday, per the asset details filed in his 2024 Lok Sabha election affidavit.
Pradhan had declared individual assets worth ₹2.32 crore, and after deducting liabilities of ₹32.80 lakh, his personal net worth worked out to around ₹1.99 crore.
The affidavit placed his movable assets at ₹1.40 crore and immovable assets at ₹92.50 lakh.

Family wealth in focus
The affidavit paints a wider family balance sheet that is substantially larger than Pradhan’s own holdings.
His wife, Mridula Thakur Pradhan, declared movable assets worth ₹2.95 crore and immovable assets worth ₹1.38 crore, leaving her with a net worth of about ₹4.13 crore after liabilities of ₹20.58 lakh.
Their daughter, Naimisha, reportedly had assets worth ₹25.29 lakh, while their son, Nishant, held assets worth ₹1.63 lakh.
Taken together, the family’s combined net worth stood at about ₹6.39 crore after liabilities of ₹53.38 lakh.
A portfolio with many moving parts
The affidavit also gives a picture of how the family’s wealth is distributed.
Pradhan reported an income of ₹12.75 lakh for FY 2022-23. The family’s holdings included bank accounts, Public Provident Fund deposits, fixed deposits, and other savings instruments, along with mutual fund investments worth ₹80.40 lakh and insurance investments worth ₹67.72 lakh.
The filing further listed agricultural land worth ₹12 lakh and non-agricultural land worth ₹20.50 lakh in Odisha’s Angul district, besides a 50% share in a Ghaziabad apartment valued at about ₹60 lakh, with his wife holding the remaining share.
Loans and valuables complete the picture
The same affidavit recorded an ongoing housing loan of ₹10.80 lakh from Punjab National Bank and additional liabilities of ₹22 lakh to four named individuals, while his wife declared a housing loan of ₹20.58 lakh from IDBI Bank.
It also listed 200 grams of gold and 2.5 kg of silver valued at ₹13.50 lakh in Pradhan’s name and 500 grams of gold and 10 kg of silver worth ₹35 lakh for his wife.
The figures indicate that Pradhan’s declared wealth is anchored largely in property, deposits, and financial assets rather than in liquid cash.
