The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran. The advisory comes as protests against Ayatollah Khamenei's government continue to rise, as people hit the streets protesting over inflation and the rising cost of living.

India has called on its citizens and people of Indian-origin who are in Iran right now to maintain caution and not visit areas where protests are being held.

What has the MEA said?

In its advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "In view of recent developments, Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice." The advisory added, "Indian citizens and PIOs currently in Iran should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, and closely monitor news as well as the website and social media handles of the Embassy of India in Tehran."
