India's upcoming Heads of Mission (HOM) conference in New Delhi will focus sharply on the ongoing crisis in West Asia and its wider economic and geopolitical impact. The three-day meet, scheduled from April 28 to 30, will bring together Indian envoys from across the world, with Narendra Modi set to join deliberations on the final day.
Focus on West Asia and Hormuz tensions
The conference opens under the leadership of Vikram Misri, who will outline global developments with a special emphasis on the situation in West Asia. A key concern is the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, where tensions between the US and Iran have affected global trade, Hindustan Times reported.

With both sides asserting control, shipping traffic has taken a major hit. Before the February 28 conflict, around 135 ships passed through the strait daily. Now, cargo movement has slowed significantly, impacting oil and goods supply, especially for Gulf nations.
Day 2: Global shifts and security outlook
On the second day, S Jaishankar will address envoys on the evolving global order shaped by the West Asia conflict, the Ukraine war and China’s growing influence in East Asia.
This will be followed by a briefing from Anil Chauhan, who will outline regional military capabilities and ongoing reforms in India's defence structure.
PM Modi, NSA Doval to address envoys
On April 30, Prime Minister Modi will share his vision and review India’s diplomatic priorities. Senior officials, including Secretary (ER) Sudhakar Dalela, will present updates on policy implementation.
Ajit Doval is also expected to speak on national security strategy, particularly at a time when Pakistan is positioning itself diplomatically in the West Asia crisis while strengthening ties with Gulf nations.

Shift in diplomatic approach
The conference also comes amid indications that the government may appoint non-career diplomats to key posts. Senior BJP leader Dinesh Trivedi is among those being considered for a major diplomatic role.
The meet is expected to set the tone for India's diplomatic engagement in a rapidly shifting global landscape.
