The Henley Passport Index for 2026 shows that India's global mobility is on the rise with the increase of five places for the Indian Passport in the last year, which is now at 80th place.
This represents an increase from 85th in 2025, which reflects India's expanding diplomatic influence that allows its citizens to travel to 55 countries and territories without needing a visa or obtaining a visa at the arrival airport.

According to the 2026 index, Indian passport holders can now travel to 55 countries visa-free or visa-on-arrival access.
These countries are:
Visa-free countries: Angola, Barbados, Bhutan, British Virgin Islands, Cook Islands, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Macao (SAR China), Malaysia, Mauritius, Micronesia, Montserrat, Nepal, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Vanuatu.
Visa on arrival (VOA) countries: Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde Islands, Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Madagascar, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Niue, Palau Islands, Qatar, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, St. Lucia, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, Zimbabwe.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA): Kenya, Seychelles, St. Kitts and Nevis.
How does this indexing work?
Henley Passport Index uses information provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Henley & Partners to rank passports according to how many destinations a holder can access without having a prior visa.

According to the Henley Passport Index, the differences in global mobility have been growing wider over time. Some of the strongest passports (Singapore, Japan, South Korea) now allow for visa-free entry into more than 190 destinations.
India's ranks over the years
According to Henley Passport Index, in 2006, India ranked 71. It ranked 73 in 2007, 75th in 2008, 75th in 2009, 77th in 2010, 78th in 2011, 82nd in 2012, 74th in 2013, 76th in 2014, 88th in 2025, 85th in 2016, 87th in 2017, 81st in 2018, 82nd in 2019, 82nd again in 2020. In 2021, India ranked 90th, 83rd in 2022, 84th in 2023, 80th in 2024, 85th in 2025 and finally 80th in 2026.
