Many people eat leftover rice from the previous day after reheating it. During winter, temperatures remain low, so there's no fear of rice spoiling. When heated in a microwave, it's also difficult to tell that the rice wasn't freshly cooked. However, nutritionists say this type of rice can become a breeding ground for bacteria if it's not properly reheated. How you store the rice is also particularly important in this regard.

Should leftover rice not be kept in the refrigerator?

The refrigerator exists to preserve leftover food properly. However, doctors say this rule doesn't apply to rice at all. Rice can be kept in the refrigerator, but there are rules for it. If rice is cooked, cooled, and properly stored in containers, there should be no problem. Eating that rice the next day after properly reheating it is also good for diabetics. The number of good bacteria in the intestines also increases when eating this type of rice. So where's the problem? Nutritionists say the problem begins a bit earlier – when rice sits on the table for a long time after cooking.

If any food is left out for a long time after cooking, bacteria can easily settle there. Eating such food causes stomach infections. In some cases, it can take a serious form. However, if you can properly store cooked rice in air-tight containers, there will be no problem. But don't reheat rice more than once.
